BUYING GUIDES
5W vs. 10W solar gate kits: what changes?
Practical equipment guidance from The Gate Guy.
The American Armor Ranch Hand 5W and 10W packages in our store share the same core equipment. The difference is the solar panel. Start with the gate and its daily use, then choose the charging setup with your installer.
What both packages include
- One actuator
- Control box with control board
- Weld-on bracket and hardware kit
- One 300MHz receiver
- Two transmitters
- The selected 5W or 10W solar panel
Neither package includes a battery or installation. Field wiring and site-specific safety devices must be planned separately.
What the larger panel changes
A 10W panel has a higher rated output than a 5W panel. It does not change the actuator or make the gate open faster. Actual charging depends on sunlight, panel placement, weather and the equipment connected to the battery.
Check these details before choosing
- How often the gate will open and close on a normal day and a busy day
- Shade at the proposed panel location, including seasonal shade
- Keypads, exit devices and other accessories that use power
- The battery and charging arrangement specified for the exact equipment
- Whether the gate swings freely and the mounting arrangement suits the operator
Do not choose a panel from wattage alone or assume a fixed number of daily openings. Send us the gate details and planned accessories if you need help checking the package.
